The Augusta Market at the River AKA Saturday Market at the River is one of several events held at the Augusta Riverwalk. The event provides an opportunity for local vendors to showcase some of their best products to the general public. With an 8:00 am start time, vendors take center stage and display thousands of items to shoppers from near and far. The event is free to the public and provides visitors an opportunity to meet and mingle with some of the awesome vendors in the CSRA.
Previous Augusta Market at the River have hosted jazz musicians, local artisans, ethnic foods, live plants, and a whole lot more. Children of all ages are welcome as well as pets. The Saturday Market at the River has also served as the starting point for the Triple 8 Group Run held every Saturday morning at 8:00 am. This event is free and open to the public.
“The market continues to be a great promotional tool for downtown Augusta” says DDA executive director Margaret Woodard. “In keeping with our mission statement of incubating new events, we have achieved our goals in privatizing the market and finding it a permanent home on the 8th Street Plaza. It is time for a new face.”
Shoppers could also grab a bite, choosing from Middle Eastern, cajun and other cuisines, in addition to sipping the homemade lemonade that keeps the Glores coming back.
“There seems to be a lot more excitement down at the market,” said Paulette Black, a longtime vendor for Paulette’s Best Food, in Waynesboro, Ga. “Everybody’s excited — the vendors, the patrons. And the city even seems to be more excited.”
